Cornwall’s Disability History Videos

Disability Cornwall and Isles of Scilly received funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund to interview disabled people in Cornwall on video about their life stories.

The intention was to create a record of how things have changed over time. The majority of the large institutions in Cornwall where disabled people used to live and work have closed, such as St Lawrence’s Hospital, various Workhouses and other segregated provision including REMPLOY at Longrock. It is apparent that disabled people now often live much more independently than ever before, with many living and working with their non-disabled friends and colleagues in mainstream housing and employment settings.
