To assist and support Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities and raise awareness of the issues they face.

Through liaison and networking with key organisations involved in BME work in Cornwall, to provide support and advice to other organisations to assist in the provision of an effective programme of projects to benefit the BME community. This includes: identification of barriers to be overcome for effective liaison and delivery; project and organisational development; action planning; resolving funding issues; governance and communication and dissemination of information.

CRCC aims to foster good relationships and work in partnership with Fata He, Fusion and Unity Cornwall to provide services which address the needs and issues of BME people.

CRCC continues to offer help and advice to Travellerspace in providing activities to assist Gypsy and Traveller communities. We are currently working in partnership with Diocese of Truro in providing mentoring support for Migrant Workers, with a range of issues that affect them.

Some 70 people, who are members of the Gipsy Traveller community, have been supported, also through a mentoring approach, to address some of the issues they face. Issues include homelessness, drug and substance abuse, lack of confidence and legal difficulties.

CRCC has strengthened links with strategic and statutory bodies and with community projects in order to provide information and advice to the BME community and improve the quality of services offered. Gypsy and Traveller communities and the Migrant Worker communities will continue to be supported through CRCC’s links with other agencies and through case work undertaken by the Social Inclusion Workers which benefits individuals directly and makes a valuable contribution in assisting and empowering people to become socially included and access support agencies, training or employment opportunities.
