EBE Foreword – sent to service providers prior to audit

Hello, we are a group of Adult Mental Health Service Users, ex-Service Users, and Carers who have come together to form the Experts by Experience (EBE) panel.  We are all volunteers with our own experiences of Mental Health issues from a service users or a carers’ point of view and we are putting our experiences together to help others in Cornwall.

The Primary Healthcare Trust commissioned the Experts by Experience project to assess service user and carer involvement in voluntary Adult Mental Healthcare services in Cornwall.  The project is managed by Cornwall Rural Community Council (CRCC) who has provided training for us and we have developed a questionnaire to monitor how service users and carers are involved in planning, developing and delivering Adult Mental Health services in our County.  From this we have developed Quality Standards.

We are now starting the process of visiting each provider around Cornwall asking everyone the same questions, relevant to the Standards.  Two panel members do this, assisted by the Project Co-ordinator.  We are interested in examples of the involvement of service users and carers in your service. We believe there may be examples of good practice that can be shared and if there are gaps these can be improved. Each organisation will receive a full report of their assessment, based on your input.
