What is the Mental Health Project?
We are an independent organisation working to support, promote and protect the rights of people with mental health problems.
What can the Mental Health Project do for you?
We aim to help mental health service users to have a say about their care, treatment and quality of life when receiving services through a number of initiatives, such as our Inpatient and Community Visitor Schemes, mental health forum meetings, service user involvement work, grants for individuals (Individual Empowerment Grant) and groups (Mental Health Self Help Resource). We also offer signposting and information on all issues around mental health services in Cornwall, including information on self help groups. We produce the Speaking Up Magazine twice a year that informs people about recent issues raised by service users and any responses we have received from health and social care services in relation to these issues; it also contains useful information about helpful organisations and services that may be of interest. We also produce a monthly e-newsletter that gives regular updates on the work that we are doing.
We also manage and co-ordinate Experts By Experience, a service user and carer led initiative responsible for assessing service user and carer involvement in the planning and delivery of voluntary sector mental health services which are commissioned by the Primary Care Trust.
