The Cornwall Rural Community Council’s (CRCC) Young Carers Service has recruited a befriender to support young people throughout Cornwall between the ages of 5 and 11 years old who care for a family member.

Lynda Philips will be responsible for recruiting volunteers to become befrienders who will in turn support young carers between the ages of 5 and 12 years old. The support given will depend entirely on what the young person requires; this could be help with homework, reading, taking them swimming, trips out or just simply going for a coffee and a chat.

Lynda has been a volunteer for the Young Carers Service for 7 years, and has also worked as a befriender in the past. Lynda says “I am looking forward to developing this much needed new befriender service, and can’t wait to meet the families who I hope will benefit immensely.
