The Next Generation (Young Adult Carers Group)

Carers Surf The Cornwall Rural Community Council’s (CRCC) Young Carers Service has recently sought funding to provide support for young people who are 18 years plus who are moving into transition from child to adult carer; following an external evaluation of the Young Carers Service which identified a need.

In August this year the first gathering took place and 12 young people attended and ‘The Next Generation’ of young adult carers was formed. The group meets up once a month, and organises various respite opportunities to give the young people ‘time out’ of their caring roles.

The fist event was surfing lessons in which our very own carer support worker Anne Philips also joined in (she is still recovering!) Anne says “this service definitely meets a real need for these young adult carers, giving them time out from their caring roles to enjoy social activities with their peers whilst also receiving advice and support as they move on to become an adult carer.
