Carers Enjoy a Break at the Annual Carers Carol Service

For over ten years Cornwall Rural Community Council (CRCC) has organised the Carers Carol Service. This year it was held on 7 December in Truro Cathedral and Lady Mary Holborow, Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall and Patron of CRCC joined more than 300 people to celebrate the valuable contribution carers give to a relative, partner, friend or neighbour, in supporting them due to their disability, ill health or frailty.

The sermon was given by Canon Rob Dickenson, of Week St Mary. Reverend Amanda Stevens, who was Carer Lead for Adult Social Care up 18 months ago, gave a reading and lead the prayers, which focussed on the many different conditions, age and aspects of care, carers provide. Once again, St Hilary School Choir delighted everyone with their singing, a young carer with their befriender gave a reading, young carers took the collection and carers from support groups across the county lit candles to remember loved ones.

Monica Thomas, Carers Support Manager, CRCC said "many carers had found the service very moving and appreciated that the care and support given by carers unconditionally had been publicly recognised".

After the service everyone enjoyed tea and mince pies (donated by Sainsburys, Truro) in the Cathedral restaurant.
