Minister of State for Climate Change visits Calor’s Energy Centre

Calor Gas, the UK’s leading supplier of LPG (liquefied petroleum gas), welcomed Greg Barker, Minister of State for Climate Change to its flagship Energy Centre today (Monday 30th April).  Opened in Exeter, on Alphinbrook Road, Marsh Barton in November 2011, the Energy Centre is the first of a new type of energy retail outlet; a pilot for Calor Gas and a first for any rural energy supplier. A scheme to help rural Cornish pubs to branch out into new services was launched on 17 January at The Cornish Arms in St Merryn, near Padstow.  Pub is The Hub launched its Local Community Services Champions initiative to a packed meeting of over 60 people, showcasing advice, support and, if appropriate, funding for pub operators and owners who are considering a diversification scheme. Examples include providing post offices, shops, libraries, internet cafes, allotment schemes, school dinners, lunch clubs for the elderly, cash point machines, IT training and meeting rooms.

Help save our Playing Fields and Green Spaces

The Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge is a fantastic scheme that has been set up to protect outdoor recreational spaces in communities all across the country.  The Cornwall County Playing Fields Association (CCPFA) is delighted to have been asked to help promote this scheme and will be awarding £1,000 to the first Cornish playing field to obtain Queen Elizabeth II Field status.  The CCPFA, which is administered by Cornwall Rural Community Council, is a long established, independent charity whose aim is to promote, support and advise on the provision of children’s outdoor play across Cornwall.

Memories are not just held in one part of the brain (like a track on a CD).  The different aspects of memory (such as smell, colour, sound, vision and emotion) are held in different parts of the brain and this is important, particularly for people with memory impairment as it means that memories can be accessed through different, undamaged pathways.  For example, the smell of roses from a garden, the sound of the sea, the feel of a baby’s head in the crook of an arm, the colours of autumn leaves -all of these can remind us of times gone by and of all the things that make us who we are.
