Mental Health Service User Involvement
The Independent Visitors Scheme (IVS) exists to support people with mental health problems who are in hospital. The role of an Independent Visitor is to act as a confidential and independent listening ear and to support patients in having a collective say about their care, treatment and quality of life during their stay in hospital. We are not there to problem solve but to give people time, support, help raise issues, signpost and because you may well have been there yourself – give cause for hope.
If you are interested in becoming an Independent Visitor, please give us a call or download the application form here: IVS Application Form (62 KB Download)
The Community Independent Visitors Scheme (CIVS) exists to support people with mental health problems in the community in having a collective say about their care, treatment and quality of life when receiving services from community mental health service providers. The role of a Community Independent Visitor is to act as a confidential and independent listening ear; we are not there to problem solve but to give people time, support, help raise issues, signpost and because you may well have been there yourself – give cause for hope.
If you have any comments you would like to make about the mental health services you receive or have any suggestions for improving services, you can either contact us directly (see our details on the right of the page) or you can download the Feedback Form here:

User representation is a two way process. It is about representing user concerns, providing a user perspective on issues and ensuring that user views are taken into account. Our Service User Representative Group (SURG) also provide the health and social community a focal point for involving service users in the planning and delivery of services. In essence it is about supporting, promoting and protecting the rights of service users.
If you would like to know more or to get involved, please give us a call or download the application form here: SURG Application Form (44 KB Download)
