A large part of our work involves working with Parish Councils and community groups on community-led planning, such as parish plans.
What is a Parish Plan?
A Parish Plan is a vision for the parish, setting out aspirations & aims. It covers a wide range of issues that affect the parish and identifies actions to take these issues forward. It should link in to existing strategies and inform partner organisations.
Why do one?
There are a number of good reasons why parishes should undertake a Parish Plan. Here are some of them...
> | Ensure that residents have a say in how their Parish develops. |
> | Record what's good about a parish as well as what isn't. |
> | A Parish Plan can be used as a tool for change. |
> | It provides a mandate for the Parish/Town Council. |
> | Having a Plan can help kick-start action - locally and beyond! |
Does Your Parish Have A Plan?
If not, then now is the time to investigate whether your parish should do one. Over the past few years, more and more parishes have undertaken and adopted a Parish Plan and are now seeing the benefits. Use our Community Plan Status Map to find out whether your parish is in the process of undertaking or has completed a Plan. If you think your parish could benefit from a Parish Plan then contact your parish council and discuss it with them. For an idea of issues that have come out of parish plans to date a summary report is now available here.
A selection of Parish Plans and Plan Summary Leaflets are also available to download (see box on right).
