Carers Week events across Cornwall

There are estimated to be 55,000 carers in Cornwall, which is approximately 10% of the population.  These are people who care for a relative, partner, friend or neighbour that may be unable to remain independent in their own home without their support.

This year Carers Week starts on Monday 13 June and throughout the week there will be events held across the county offering information on a wide range of services, benefits and support.

Monica Thomas, Carers’ Support Manager at Cornwall Rural Community Council (CRCC) said

‘It is so important for carers to get information and support in the early stage of their caring role and these events will give them the opportunity to learn more about what is available, to meet Carers’ Support Workers and other carers.’

Here is a timetable of events on offer: 

Monday 13 June, 10am to 3pm, Information stand at Derriford Hospital

Monday 13 June, 9.45am to12pm, Benefit Awareness by Gary Harfoot from Disability Cornwall at All Saints Church,Camborne

Tuesday 14 June, 10am to 3pm, Information stand at Sainsbury’s, Bude . 

Wednesday 15 June, 10am to 3pm, Information stand at Tesco’s, St Ives.

Wednesday 15 June, 1.30pm to 4pm, Workshop for carers of people with Psychosis or Autism Society, consultation on what carers need from a support network. Both events at Newquay Sport Centre. For more details contact 01209 613456.

Thursday 16 June, 10am to 3pm, Information stand at Sainsbury’s Truro.
