Overwhelming success for Treverbyn Community Hall engagement day
The members of the newly formed Treverbyn Community Hall committee were overwhelmed at the response from the local community during a Community Engagement day held on 9 April at Treverbyn Community Hall. The day saw over 70 people come to the hall to suggest ideas for new activities and how the hall could be better used.
The event was organised with help from the Sensory Trust and Cornwall Rural Community Council (CRCC) and was made possible through funding from the Clay Country Local Action Group. Work is underway to lease the hall from the church to a community trust who will manage the hall on a day to day basis. The new committee, which includes representatives from the church, want to ensure the hall develops into a vibrant community hub for the local area.
The hall is already used regularly by Rainbows, Brownies and Guides. A very successful Youth Club is held every Friday evening and a Luncheon Club takes place every Tuesday, which regularly attracts 70 people. But this is just the start – the committee want to build on what already takes place and extend the range of activities on offer at the hall.
The halls Community Engagement Officer, Dawn Ellis said
“We had a huge number of suggestions from the community, of activities they would like to see happening in the hall. I want to get events started very soon to show we really want to make this a hall for all. We are also hoping to secure grant funding to make a range of improvements to the hall including an extension in order to provide more meeting rooms. 2011 really is just the start!”
CRCC is supporting the new committee to find funding for the project through their Village Development Project, which is funded by the Clay Country Local Development Group.
Any voluntary or community group in the Clay area who is interested in hearing about support for similar opportunities are welcome to contact CRCC’s Rural Services Manager on 01872 243550 or email: nikki.mills@cornwallrcc.org.uk ( nikki NULL.mills null@null cornwallrcc NULL.org NULL.uk)
