Help save our playing fields and green spaces

The Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge is a fantastic scheme that has been set up to protect outdoor recreational spaces in communities all across the country.  The Cornwall County Playing Fields Association (CCPFA) is delighted to have been asked to help promote this scheme and will be awarding £1,000 to the first Cornish playing field to obtain Queen Elizabeth II Field status.  The CCPFA, which is administered by Cornwall Rural Community Council, is a long established, independent charity whose aim is to promote, support and advise on the provision of children’s outdoor play across Cornwall.

It is an unfortunate fact that our green spaces are not as well protected as they could be and many have been sold for redevelopment over the last few decades.  It is imperative that these fundamental spaces, which enrich the lives of so many, are protected.  All kinds of outdoor spaces can apply to find out if they are eligible for the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge, such as sports pitches, woodlands, play areas, gardens and bicycle trails.

The CCPFA can be contacted for details of how to apply, for instance, contacting the local Council (as landowner) to complete a nomination form, along with submitting plans showing the location, outline and images of the site.  You will then receive confirmation as to whether the site is eligible and arrangements can be made to agree the drawing up of a Deed.
